"Good Brother" visit at night

by The SAF Regular

I've got a couple of stories to share, some told to me and just a couple that happened to me.

Here's one that was related to me one boring night during outfield.

My platoonmate has a friend, A, who had one of his arms amputated at the elbow, right or left I don't really remember, and it doesn't really matter anyway.

During his NS days, A had a good friend, B, who was his section mate, and they lived pretty close to each other, so A normally got a ride home from B on his motorbike when they booked out together.

One Thursday night, A woke up in the middle of the night, and saw one of the "good brothers" (a spirit) standing over B's bed, staring intently at B.

Freaked out, A covered his head with his blanket and pretended to go to sleep, uneasily waiting for dawn to approach and thaw the freezing chill he felt up his spine.

On Friday, during bookout day,A gets a ride home from B as usual. A had been struggling whether or not to tell B about what he saw last night, but decided not to. What B didn't know wouldn't hurt him, right?

The entrance/exit to their camp leads to a T junction, where they normally turned right to head home. Approaching the T, A could see a lorry trundling along its way on the right. Strange thing was, B did not slow down.

While executing the turn, they were hit by the lorry. B was killed and A landed in hospital a mangled wreck, where they had to amputate his arm.

A had another friend, C, who visited him in hospital. C's mother was a "dang kee" (a temple medium), and naturally was well informed in matters regarding the spiritual world.

After A told C about the apparition he saw that night, C said "You should have told him. The 'good brother' wasn't trying to harm B. Rather, it was kind of saying 'Hmmm.... This guy would be joining us soon.'. By telling B, you would have broken the premonition."

A chain of events might have been set in motion, where B might not have rode his bike and not gotten into the accident in the end.

But we will never ever know.
